 Congratulations to Barbara Saunders for completing the coursework to
obtain the GRI designation. This nationally recognized Realtor designation is given for
completion of advanced training in a variety of subjects such as real estate taxation,
buyer representation, risk management and real estate as an investment. Completion of this
program is a mark of distinction throughout the United States.
Barbara’s real estate
career started in 1994, shortly after moving to Port Townsend. Prior to that her
professional life was devoted to nursing. As a registered nurse, she spent 15 years
working in such diverse locales as Colorado Springs, Colorado, Galveston, Texas, La Jolla,
California and Burkina Faso, West Africa. Pastimes then ranged from skiing and motocross
racing, to surfing and how to cook dinner with almost no ingredients. When Barbara moved
to Port Townsend, nursing opportunities were limited and she made her move into the new
career of real estate. "Instead of researching medical conditions, I’m
researching septic systems and the Growth Management Act", she joked. " The
years with the Peace Corps in Africa taught me self-motivation and self-reliance, while
the nursing career taught me the importance of thoroughness and thoughtfulness. I believe
all of these traits transfer well to real estate".
Saunders has been the recipient
of the Realtor of the Year Award for Jefferson County twice, most recently
for 2007, "For generous contribution of time & talent to
the Realtor® Association and the community." Saunders was the
association’s education chair from 1996 to 2007 organizing continuing education
opportunities in Jefferson County for Realtors. She has also been the recipient of
John L Scott’s Emerald and Gold Awards.
